Features[]

Protection[]

The Wii Remote comes with a built-in wrist strap and an attachable jacket. They are used to prevent any damage from happening to the Wii Remote, with the grip allowing players to not have the Wii Remote fly out of their hands as they swing, and the jacket making the Wii Remote more durable if it were flung.

Attachments (internal)[]

The Wii Remote has a port on the bottom of the remote that allows the connection of the Nunchuk, Classic Controller, Wii MotionPlus, and the Classic Controller Pro.

Attachments (external)[]

The Wii Remote has a variety of external attachments that can be outfitted on the outside of the case, such as the Wii Wheel, and the Wii Zapper.

Sensing[]

The Wii Remote uses IR technology for its pointing abilities. It can detect the wavelength given off by the sensor bar, and triangulate it to see where the player(s) is/are pointing at the screen.

Acceleration[]

The Wii Remote has the ability to sense acceleration along three axes through the use of an Analog Devices ADXL330 accelerometer.

Speaker[]

The Wii Remote has a speaker on the bottom of the face of the controller. This will make sounds depending on actions done in an application or game.

Memory[]

The Wii Remote has a 128kbit/16kB EEPROM chip. Six kilobytes of this can be read and written by programs. Some of the memory was used to allow to save up to 10 Miis in the Wii Remote. These Miis can be transferred to another Wii. The rest of the memory is used for storing game data.

Trivia[]

  • The Sensor Bar’s wavelength can be mimicked with the fire from a candle, and when held at the proper distance, one can play without the Sensor Bar.
